Hi HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
Wow with CHA around the corner and all the sneak peaks appearing its really a scrap heaven at the moment. My mojo has been hiding but peaked out over christmas when my Urban lily box arrived.
Its my turn today to show you a little bit of art using Urban Lily. You have to admit Urban lily really do chipboard well. I know the girls all have some yumminess to show you later using big, small, die cut and plain chipboards but I started with the journaling cards.
This is a small hanger which is now in my kitchen.
Using the lime polka dot slider and some scraps of left over paper I was able to create this really quickly and with limited resources (being at my sisters in england with very few supplies!).
I began by sanding the edges of the journaling slider with a nail file, to give a vintage feel. I then took a large chipboard butterfly (Urban lily) and covered it with vintage music paper.
A tip for covering chipboard shapes:
1. cover the whole shape with glue and place a square of your chosen paper on top.
2. press firmly an allow to dry.
3. run around the edge of your shape with your nail, being careful not to rip your paper.
4. Using a paper nail file and downward strokes begin to work your way around the chipboard. Small to reach areas may be easier to sand with a small nail file, the sort used in jewellery making.
5. The edges will begin to gently fall away leaving a perfectly covered chipboard shape!
My butterfly is topped with a flower, also made from paper and really just folded petals layered on top of each other.
Using some vintage bobble trim and a piece of UL polka dot paper I layered my elements.
I pulled the slider open and attached a photograph of Samuel (you will get used to seeing him!)
And on the right hand side my title, which I also distressed.
The reverse of my slider was stamped with PULL and I added my journaling with a permanent fineliner.
Finally I added a vintage velvet ribbon to hang my piece and placed it on a vintage plastic hanger....yeah for the 1970's!!!
I hope you like my first project and you will come back for more :)
Have a great creative week!!

Hi all! It's me
Sarah. First and foremost, I wanted to wish everyone a happy and healthy NEW YEAR! I'm sensing a ton of creativity this year, so let's get to it.
Today, I plan on sharing a couple of layouts that I've created using some of Urban Swank's GORGEOUS papers.
In this first layout, I used the
MINI BOOK BRIGHT sheet. This sheet of paper was intended to be a mini book, and I've also seen people use this paper as journaling spots. However, I used this sheet as multiple frames for a handful of my photos. This is a great way to get a ton of photos onto a single-paged layout.

In my second layout, it was all about "fussy cutting". What's that?! You don't know what "fussy cutting" is?! Well, let's just say that it requires a lot of patience and preferably a small pair of sharp scissors. Basically, it's all about cutting around the detailed patterns, borders, and images on your patterned papers. In the following layout, I cut around a bunch of the flourishes and swirls. By adding the swirls that I cut out, I created more "pa-zazz" to my layout.

...so have you played with some Urban Swank stuff recently?! If so, make sure to let us know by leaving a comment on any blog posts linking us back to your work. We'd LOVE to see what you're up to! :)
Stay tuned for more creativity from my fellow design team members!
Hugs,
sarah.
Happy New Year to all our readers and fans! My name is Rachel Theall and I'm so excited for 2010 and for my first post on the Urban Swank blog! To kick the year off I'm going to share with you a page and an altered can that I created using the wonderful Urban Lily products. As I type this, there is a glittery snow falling from the sky and everything is bright and fresh. This atmosphere is what has inspired me to create the following page.

I've used Everyday Lily Urban Stripe, Urban Lily Secret Keepers Window with the flower, Urban Lily Blink Ink, Urban Lily ATC card, Urban Lily Urban Cut Minibook Black and White, Urban Lily Urban Cut Alphabet, and Helmar Professional Acid Free Glue and 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

I've used the secret keepers window in combination with the urban cut mini album to create a mini album on the page. The secret keepers window was sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. Then I glued some fabric around the flower using the Helmar 450 adhesive. I used the same adhesive to glue the lace to the window to keep the mini shut on the page. I glued pages of the mini album into the book and added pictures over it.

For the title, I used the Urban Cut Alphabet. The letters have been embossed on the black part with Ranger pearl green embossing powder using a Zig embossing writer. In the white part of some of the letters, I sprayed more of the glimmer mist. To create the "s" and "n", I cut out the letters and used the paper as a mask. The circular flowers on the page were made by sewing fabric to scraps of paper in a spiral pattern as I had seen on some t-shirts at the store. I've also used this same flower on the altered can below but they are created out of paper.

This can sits on my craft table and once held chocolates. It now holds my glue so that the glue is together and within easy reach. I covered the can with Urban Lily Blink Collection Ink patterned paper. It is the same paper that I had used in the scrapbook page above to cut out the bird and flower. I left the hole in the paper so that the pretty pattern of the can would show through. As the paper was not quite large enough to cover the whole can, I filled in the bare section with a scrap of paper covered in more of the spiral flowers. And, on the lid, I added a bow. I also filled in some of the swirls on the paper with gold glitter.

To make the spiral flowers shown here, cut a circle out of your patterned paper or fabric. Then, cut the circle into a spiral. Distress the edges of the circle and use a sewing machine to sew the spiral onto a scrap of paper. You will want to sew the spiral smaller than the circle's original size. When you are finished, cut the flower from the paper it is sewn to and glue it where you'd like on your project. It's really simple and really gorgeous.
Thank you for stopping by the Urban Swank blog today! Check back soon for more great projects from the Urban Swank Team!

All of us at Urban Swank want to wish you and your families...
...a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Hope to see you all here in 2010 with loads of creativity!

I am lucky to have been chosen as a swanky girl. My layout features my darling daughter and her many faces. I took all the pictures within 5 minutes. When I saw the pictures, I was amazed by how many different looks she had given me. I than had fun and labeled all the pics. I used the Happy Everything Collection Beautiful and celebrate papers. This layout was simple I just cut out the design from the Beautiful paper mounted it on the pink bazzil heart paper and layered on black bling. I added some stickles to the edges. The font is from American Crafts.
Thank you for looking

I have pretty much been blond all my life, so when I went dark, I had to document it!
Urban Lily Supplies:
Alphabet Paper
Sugarhigh Paper
Polka Dot Memory Photocards
ATC Cards
I cut the letters from the Alphabet paper and matted with the leftover portion from the Sugarhigh paper used to make the Popsicle flower.
I added a bit of Glimmer Mist and used some Urban Lily ATC Cards.
I used Helmar's Textured Effects on the alphas to add texture.
And I even made a little embellishment from the Textured Effects! Click
